Fish Flake Hill is the oldest part of Beverly. When the first settlers, led by Roger Conant, came to Cape Ann in 1626, fishing was the dominant industry. A fish flake is a drying table for fish, and the fish flake yards existed until the late 19th century. The Fish Flake Hill Historic District is the north and south sides of Front Street from Cabot to Bartlett Streets.

Walking tours offer insight into the hidden history of Beverly and introduce you to its key events and major figures. $10 (free for members unless otherwise noted). Meet at the Cabot House, 117 Cabot Street. Rain or shine; in case of severe weather, check with us that day.
