The Historical Commission’s meeting is a continuation of the December 6, 2017, meeting where the Peabody Essex Museum requested a Certificate of Appropriateness for its plans for outside renovations to Plummer Hall, which housed the Phillips Library until 2011. During the December 6 meeting, the Peabody Essex first introduced its intention to move the bulk of the Phillips Library collections from its temporary facility in Peabody to the new PEM Collections Center in Rowley, 35-40 minutes away from Salem and not accessible by public transit.

The Historical Commission is accepting letters from the public in regards to this matter prior to January 3, 2017.
